Graphic Artist Intern

Generosity Global Inc., is seeking a Graphic Design Intern to join our growing team. The following job position is non-paid and open to those who are able to receive college credit for the Winter / Spring semester.

Background and Mission

Generosity Global Inc. (GG) is a non-profit organization based in Columbia, Maryland. For over 10 years, GG uses the power of generosity to improve the quality of life for people in need. We focus  on providing food and showers to the homeless in the United States. In Africa, we bring clean drinking water to people in rural communities and help uplift women. We are a fun bunch of professionals who believe in creating real impact and changing lives for our team members and the people we serve. Everything we do is purpose-driven and EPIC.

THE DETAILS

  • Help grow GG as a strong and unique brand with a consistent voice across-platforms (e.g. web, audio, video, social) by creating creative written and oral content for the GG brand. You’re obsessed with storytelling through content strategy just as much as we are.
  • You think strategically about how each piece of content will work together with a provided caption, music etc, across each platform.
  • Pushing boundaries. We’re not here to just tell people about a homeless persons using our shower truck or some kid drinking dirty water in Africa.
  • Bring new ideas and passion. You’ll work with the founder and other team members. We want you to put your vision into this while building up a cohesive brand.
  • Develop and lead brand strategies. Bring our mission, story and impact to life by creating a dynamic vision for each story.
  • You are ready to lead from day one.

Intern Responsibilities

The Graphic Design Intern is responsible for providing support to GG’s creative department. He/She will work under the Design Manager’s supervision and on various print and web/digital related projects. The Graphic Design Intern’s primary duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Adhering to brand guidelines
  • Completing assigned tasks within identified time frames
  • Retouching images (occasionally manipulate) and branding field images
  • Creating multiple engaging digital flyers for donations and events
  • Assisting the creative team in designing marketing materials for sponsors 
  • Producing promotional material for social media posts
  • Implementing the necessary changes based on received feedback from the Supervisor
  • Working closely with Supervisor to develop design concepts for different projects and assisting with other tasks as needed

Intern Skills and Attributes Requirements

  • Desire to serve in a non-profit working environment
  • Graphic design major or enrolled in a related degree program
  • Excellent computer knowledge for both, MAC and PC environments
  • Must be proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other typical design applications
  • The individual should be able to craft (bring fresh ideas) and execute a vision with creativity and style
  • The ideal candidate must be a quick learner, detail-oriented, organized, and dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude 
  • Ability to communicate (both written and verbally) well with others and maintain a professional demeanor
  • Creative self-starter who is comfortable with both, taking initiative and working in collaboration 
  • Capable of operating well under pressure and working on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Working on a wide range of graphic design projects
  • Receiving guidance and feedback from experienced professionals
  • Attending weekly/monthly meetings and participating in working sessions with the  Supervisor
  • Flexible schedule for students
  • Building professional pieces to include in their portfolio
  • Have a thorough understanding of the inner-workings of a hyper focused, mission driven non profit organization.

  • Letter of recommendation and support for future employers after successful completion of internship.

Time Requirements

This internship opportunity is an unpaid position that will last one semester with the potential for an extension. The internship can be structured with or without academic credit. We require between 16 – 20 hours of commitment per week per semester. Work hours and deadlines will be structured around school schedules. Most work is performed during standard business hours.

Internship Credit:

Academic credit is available for internships.  Students must talk with their academic advisor to see if internship credit is available through their academic department for this internship.  If credit is not available through the student’s home department, internship credit may be available through other departments.  Students must satisfy the specific internship requirements of the supporting academic department to earn credit, which typically involve 80-240 hours of work, in addition to an Activities Log and a Letter of Evaluation from the on-site supervisor.  Students are responsible for covering the tuition-related implications of accepting the internship.  Generosity Global Inc. cannot pay for course credits
